End of an Era
After an incident at Easter where I was knocked off scooter (thankfully at walking
pace) I was eventually told yesterday that it is uneconomical write off, mainly due
to amount of paint work.
I have taken the last 7 weeks to do a lot of thinking, and as I have had a few other
issues recently, and with my health not so good I have decided it’s time to hang
up the helmet after 46 years. (and no not my original stadium 7 helmet)
I was given the option to buy back but decided against it as it would only sit rotting
away.
But life on bikes has been a blast starting with a Honda c70 that I brought new
for £300 while parents on holiday and had to wait for mum to come with me to sign
as guarantor. Which I then pushed down all alleyways home and learnt to ride on our
cul-de-sac.
Then other Hondas, Yamahas, a fab Kawasaki Z650, Triumphs and even a BSA oddly have
never had a Suzuki. I did love the two Harley Davidsons, despite the running costs
which for a lowly administrator were a bit steep.
Bikes were only transport until I was 38 (though ratty Bonneville's were not a great
regular commuter bike). Then after I learnt to drive, bikes were commutes but also
for fun, and I moved up to larger cruisers touring across Europe and the myriad of
rallies and events I have been too.
In a way it was kind of the end when I had to sell Harley a few years ago, but the
scooter has been fun and got me a new set of friends.
I will still be out and about at as many events as I can but may not be at Brighton
as much due to parking.
